What type of brain damage can occur if someone were hit in the head with a baseball bat?

I know someone who was hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat twice at an early age. This person really wasn't the same since then in terms of behavior and memory. What brain damage could this person have suffered? This person still functions normally. Normally meaning driving a car and ability to do advanced math.

What type of brain damage? To put it simply, all sorts—which is pretty much true.

The back of the head is where the cerebellum is located, so damage to that would damage its function to modulate the outputs of other brain systems to make them more precise. Removal of the cerebellum does not prevent an animal from doing anything in particular, but it makes actions hesitant and clumsy. This precision is not built-in, but learned by trial and error. Learning how to ride a bicycle is an example of a type of neural plasticity that may take place largely within the cerebellum.
