How can I do a better job raising greenhouse seedlings?

Last winter I started a bunch of vegetable and flower seed and they grew well to about 2 inches and then they just stopped growing and seemed stunted. I used sterile growing mix that had slow release fertilizer. I tried to keept the temp at least 50 degrees at night and usually 85 degrees or more during the day. They were not over or underwatered and I saw no signs of pests or fungus. I am wondering what to do better this year. Could it be the woodstove I used for heat? There is an exhaust fan set to kick on at 88 degrees. I never had this problem when I used to have large greenhouses.

Are they getting enough sun? I used to work in a big greenhouse also, and I found that bottom heat worked really well. And you don't say if you have tomatoes, those need warm nights to make them grow, and the temperature fluctuation is enough to confuse them and stop them from growing. A grower once said tomatoes trying to grow with cool nights and warm days is like trying to walk with your legs crossed. Your nighttime heat is probably not warm enough, I would kick it up to at least 60 if you can, 65 would be better. If you cant do this, try getting a heat mat especially made for this to put under your seed trays.
